Our Story

Nicole Van Gaalen, owner of Centurion Boutique

Centurion Boutique started with a curiosity about the fashion industry in late 2020.

Nicole Van Gaalen has always loved pairing simple pieces with bursts of colour and bold patterns. Growing up in rural Southwestern Ontario, she enjoys grabbing a coffee at the local cafe and stopping in at the clothing boutique, reminding her of her European roots, next door.

In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, Nicole began to reflect on her purchasing habits and prioritize supporting local businesses. She noticed that the majority of her clothing was made overseas, and began to research about the Canadian fashion industry. She consumed articles, blogs, and journals about slow fashion and sustainability in her spare time.

In early 2021, Nicole began to learn about how to launch a small business, marketing strategies, and building an online shop.

With the support of her family, and the mentorship of her business coach and art director, Nicole began to contact Canadian designers and build her brand.

With a nod to her dad, Nicole is proud to share Centurion Boutique, a collection of clothing thoughtfully designed and ethically made by Canadians who are inspired by the brave women of this century, like you.
